Over the last 45 years, Piven Theatre Workshop has become a nationally-recognized leader in theatre training. Join us for our most advanced pre-college training program for young actors and explore the full Piven canon while preparing for a culminating performance integrating staged contemporary scenes, literary adaptation, and improvisation.

In addition to working with master instructors to learn core Piven course work—improvisation technique, text analysis, and script work—students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of celebrated Chicago theatre artists in valuable, resume-building workshops. These specialty classes are designed to complement our core curriculum and give students a taste of the multidisciplinary approach taught at the nation’s foremost  conservatories

and universities, while our core curriculum will help students hone their acting skills and improvisation technique. Students emerge from the Piven’s Conservatory having gained experience in a diverse range of training and performance techniques, including stage combat, Viewpoints Technique, monologue and audition technique, voice and dialect training, and improv comedy.

Because of the ensemble-dependent nature of this program, students must be accepted by application to register and any absences must be approved prior to acceptance into the program. Applications available for download below.

In addition to our need based scholarships, we have a limited amount of merit based scholarships available. If you would like to apply for a scholarship, please send in scholarship paperwork with your application and registration. Merit based scholarships will be evaluated based on need, talent, and application.

The Conservatory will run from July 9-August 3 Monday - Friday from 9:30am - 3pm.
